Got out for an easy but great run with Sierra this morning up Bear. It had snowed in Boulder and on the peaks and was amazingly beautiful. The snow increased as I went up, but was never more than an inch or two deep. It was surprisingly grippy too, like blown styrofoam. The summit boulders were treacherous though, took 6 minutes RT from the sign to the summit and back as I was being quite careful not to loose my footing. The descent was fun through the snow and Sierra bounded all over with a huge doggy grin, voicing her approval of these early signs of winter. The trees were encrusted with a shiny coat of crystaline ice, glimmering in the morning sun and the peaking aspen were especially brilliant with the added coat of ice. Great day to be out in the hills.
Any word on the scrambling race? I'm planning to leave work early in time to get to Boulder and then to run up to the base of the rock to watch the action.
ReplyDeleteNo word yet, but the races start at 5:15pm. I think it is going to be the slab this week, so the meeting spot would be the Cragmoor TH. What is the earliest you can get to Boulder? I am thinking of running beforehand. I proposed a run to George going from Eldo to Walker and back starting at 2:30. Planning on going really hard.
ReplyDelete2:30 - No way I can make that. I would be up for this run if you guys wanted to do it on say, Saturday AM though. I'll be leaving downtown Denver at 4 PM, so just planning to get to the slab 10 mins or so before everyone else. I don't know the trails nearly as well you, so I'll Google this trailhead and try to figure it out. If it's at all confusing, give me some directions if you could.
