"Your biggest challenge isn't someone else. Its the ache in your lungs and the burning in your legs, and the voice inside you that yells 'CAN'T', but you don't listen. You just push harder. And then you hear the voice whisper, 'can'. And you discover that the person you thought you were is no match for the one you really are." ~unknown~

Monday, 6/15/09 Sanitas
It has been a while since I have been on Sanitas, but it was cool and damp and I needed something short. I went really easy, but about half way up, I could hear some thunder kicking up and getting closer, so I picked up the tempo to moderate for the last 5 minutes or so. Hit the pole at 19:50 and turned back down the hill with out breaking stride. Down in 11.

I am puzzled by your down in 11. Is that the East Ridge trail?
ReplyDeleteBrandon, this was down the S. Ridge, the way I went up. The E. side/valley is a few minutes longer.
ReplyDeleteThe descent record is listed as 7:59 by Paul Pomeroy which sounds ridiculously fast, that would be something like 5:?? mm pace?
ReplyDeleteThat hurts my ankles just thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteLoved the other header photo but this one's a goodie too! Where is that?
ReplyDeleteYou mispronounced the name..it's "sanitas", not "sanitas". Or is it the other way around?
ReplyDeleteJ.P., bummer we crossed paths the other night and did not get to meet...
ReplyDeleteThe header pic was taken last Sunday near the top of Emperor Couloir, ~200 feet below the summit of the N. Face of Torreys. It is the prominant snow gulley you see from I-70.
Dave, that is "Sanitas", not like Buzz says it.... ;).
