Tuesday, 07/20/10 Green Mountain

Up Gregory/Ranger: 37:39 ahr 166/mhr 179
Down Front:  22:28 ahr 144/mhr 160

Felt better this morning (5:45am start), pushed the intensity up a bit, felt like the high side of moderate/low side of hard, but a bit labored for the meager time.

The down was a snap, my feet felt accurate and spot on, a stark contrast to yesterday where I felt stumbly and like I may as well just hike down.

  1. Jeff,

Have you ever considered a different training regimen from "green once a day" to get you into peak uphill form for Mt Evan and PPA?

I'm not a trainer, but I'm fairly certain there are better ways to train.

There are also reasons not to train differently. In particular, if you just enjoy doing Green a lot and would rather stick to that (of course).

  2. Hey John, yeah, GZ and I have had this discussion almost every time we have run together.

There might be better ways to train, but I pretty much am content with just getting out and taking each day as it comes, running Green or other local peaks, or higher peaks, just because that is what I love to do.

Could I be faster if I did speedwork on the track, hill intervals, 2 per days, stuck to a program with charts, graphs and this and that? Maybe, maybe not, but I know from past experience (in the cycling world), that a regimented program takes the fun out of it for me.

Running for me is all just a fun hobby, a good way to stay in shape, push my limits and have fun with good friends. I only race a few times a year also, just something to look forward to really.
