ReplyDeleteThere's a village way over (several miles) to the right, a bunch of buildings. What is that? I thought Dingboche was the closest village.

ReplyDeleteRob, yeah, these crowded peaks are a real turn off. IF I were to climb some higher peaks, I would choose something lower and less popular, but almost as high. Aconcagua is the same as Everest, crap under every rock and such, but Ojos de Selado is just 100 feet lower or so and there is nobody there. That to me would be much more satisfying despite not being to claim the highest peak on the continent.
DeleteI think the village is Gorak Shep at the base of Kala Patar. I'll ask Allison, as she has been there (so jealous of that!).
